About Us

Expecting Health was founded by a group of women with a simple idea: families deserve and should expect more – more support, more guidance, better health.

Born from Genetic Alliance, a nonprofit organization rooted in 37 years of community programs and representing national voices and family-centered experiences, Expecting Health shares science-based and policy-informed information that reflects the lived experiences of individuals and their families. We do this through the power of relationships; convening the top experts; working with key leaders in health; and engaging with families and communities at the center of the conversation.

This is Expecting Health

OUR VISION

We believe in a world where, no matter our circumstances, we define health for ourselves and our families, based on our experiences and supported by scientific knowledge, that we can access and on which we can take action.

OUR MISSION

Replacing the fear and confusion many face (in the prenatal, neonatal, and early childhood years) with confidence and agency to make the best decisions for themselves and their families. We are doing this by:

  • Bridging science-based information with real-life strategies to help women and families make informed decisions

  • Driving cultural change around engaging people in health systems, promoting continuity of care, and encouraging collaboration between people, providers, and communities

  • Creating opportunities to connect with each other and build skills to engage more fully in the healthcare system

OUR CORE BELIEFS AND VALUES

We believe:

IF individual and family experiences are the foundation of the conversation about driving systems to better reflect lived experiences...

  • THEN their experiences will be the driving force behind systems change.

IF individuals and families are viewed as experts of their own lived experiences...

  • THEN the diversity of experiences people and communities have in healthcare will be directly linked to the value of health.

IF everyone appreciates that no one person or organization has all the knowledge and skills needed to create and impact change...

  • THEN we can co-create a safe space in which we can all discuss, learn, and collaborate.

IF we work with organizational leaders, industry partners, policymakers, and other decision-makers to ensure that policy, funds, and guidance matches the needs of the community and trusted partners...

  • THEN we can make solutions equitable and accessible to all, starting with the lens of the most vulnerable.
OUR APPROACH AND INTENTIONALITY

We intentionally:

  • Lead with unwavering purpose and respect
  • Generate trust
  • Build connection through collaboration
  • Authentically care
  • Ensure/embody equity is a natural outcome
  • Honor the range of lived experiences

...so that our influence drives system change.
